Racquet Network Box League Rules
This is my site Written by Brent Johner on January 30, 2007 – 11:04 am

Play Tennis1. Player Responsibilities

If you are new to our box leagues, then you should know that our administrators administer our box leagues rigorously.

Players who do not take their box league responsibilities seriously are removed from the league without refund.

Each player’s greatest responsibility is to communicate with the other players in their box. All players are expected to respond to calls and emails from other box league members within 24 hours.

Please examine your PLAYER PROFILE carefully to ensure that you have listed all phone numbers and email addresses where the players in your league may contact you.

2. Play or Die

Racquet Network box leagues are PLAY-OR-DIE leagues. This means that players who do not complete at least one match each month — regardless of the reason — are automatically eliminated.

Players who do fulfill their box league obligations are automatically included in the same league the following month at no additional cost. In this way players who fulfill their obligations may play in some box leagues for many years without paying additional admin fees.

Meanwhile, players who are eliminated may reapply to join at a future date. Those who are accepted must repay their admin fees and start over in the lowest open position.

3. Making Appointments

Players are required to contact all of the opponents in their box before the end of the fifth day of each month in order to ensure that they have enough time to complete all matches. Contact information for all players is included in our online directory.

Players may play their matches anywhere they like. Keep in mind that bad weather and other emergencies may interfere with plans. Box league players are advised to complete their matches in the first two weeks of every month.

In cases of unforseen emergencies that will or may interfere with box league appointments, players are expected to contact the other players in their box and let them know what is going on.

4. Scoring

Matches are as follows

  • Tennis – best-of-three sets
  • Badminton – best-of-five games
  • Squash – best-of-five games
  • Racquetball – best-of-five games
  • Table Tennis – best-of-five games

Match winners must report the results of their match to the appropriate ladder on the website within 48 hours.

Points are awarded as follows:

  • 1 point for playing a match
  • 1 point for each game (each set in tennis) won
  • 1 point for each match won
  • 2 points for playing all matches in a month

5. Matches

Matches will be scheduled at a mutually agreeable time and place by both players.

Matches may be played at any time during the month but must be completed and reported before midnight of the last day of the month.

Any player who fails to show for a match that has been mutually scheduled will be assessed a forfeit. The box coordinator will verify the ‘no show’ by speaking with both players involved.

Players must complete at least one of their matches to be automatically included in the next month’s league. Players who fail to play any of their matches, will be automatically dropped from the box league.

Players may enter or exit the box league by informing the adminstrator, Brent Johner, before the beginning of the month they wish to enter or exit.

6. Posting of List

A new list will be posted on this website before the start of the second day of each month.

7. Reporting Scores:

After playing each match, the winning player shall report the match results within 24 hours to the website by clicking on the REPORT SCORES link on their club home page.

But remember: if you play on the last day of the month, you will have less than 24 hours to report your scores because only scores reported before midnight on the last day of the month will count for that month.

If the match winner fails to report the result to the website, they may be removed from the league.

Report only results of games actually played. Do not report defaults or forfeits. Contact the admin in regards to dealing with “no shows”.
